I’ve been promising grant application materials for a while now, and after running a Twitter poll for PBP subscribers, I thought I’d start off with something small but far from insignificant: publication grants!
What are publication grants?
Publication grants can take many different forms. Some can cover the cost of publishing a book, in cases where a publisher requires a subvention (which is funding provided to a publisher to facilitate the publication of a book).
Since open-access publishing is becoming more and more important in academia, there are also an increasing number of grants available from different sources that can help to cover the cost of open-access publication of an article or book.
Where can you find publication grants?
The first place to look for publication grants is always close to home. Does your department or university offer any publication grants you can apply for? Hunt around a little bit on your university website, and ask your peers, supervisors, and colleagues.
