How do you go about getting someone to ‘blurb’ your book?

(R.P.)

Congratulations on getting to this stage in the book publication process! By this point, you’ve submitted your manuscript, and you may already be looking over copy edits or—gasp!—proofs.

Blurbs or endorsements are an important part of the marketing process. They are the little statements often found on the back of academic books (and occasionally on the front of trade books) that praise the books in order to persuade people to buy them. Some publishers will ask authors to suggest names of people who might be willing to read and endorse a forthcoming book.
